Part IIIaThe IncarnationQuestion 20

The Subjection of Christ to God the Father

  1. Christ is God the Son, equal with the Father and one with him in essence and nature. But Christ is also man, and as manis subject to the Father. He says (John 14:31): “As the Father hath given me commandment, so do I.” And we also read (Phil.2:8), that Christ humbled himself in obedience to the Father,“becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross.”

  2. Christ in his human nature is subject to himself in his divine Nature.
