The Nature of Confession

St. Augustine describes confession as an act which lays bare the hidden evil and disease with the hope of cure and pardon.

Since confession is a true manifestation of conscience in which the heart and the lips agree, it is an act of virtue.

The virtue exercised by confession is the virtue of penance.
