Part IIa IIaePiety and ObservanceQuestion 114
Friendliness
-
Friendliness or affability is a virtue subordinate tojustice which seeks the balance and order of all things, includinghuman relations. Friendliness thus has a special aspect of good toachieve, and is therefore a special virtue.
-
A virtue annexed to another is called a partor a potential part of that other. In this sense, friendliness or affability is a part of justice. It does not coverthe whole ground of justice, and therefore is not identical withjustice; it is annexed to justice, but is distinct from thatvirtue.
